Coach Code of Conduct

All adult participants—including administrators, coaches, and team managers—must complete the following requirements before having any contact with their team:

  • Annual background check
  • SafeSport Training (every two years)
  • Concussion Recognition Training (every three years)

These requirements apply to all adult volunteers in both the traveling and recreational leagues.

As a coach, I will:
  • Coach my team to the best of my ability and strive to create a positive learning environment.
  • Always prioritize player safety over competitive goals or the desire to win.
  • Treat referees with respect and accept their decisions without argument.
  • Be encouraging and supportive of my players and their families.
  • Communicate important information to players and families in a timely manner.
  • Fulfill all responsibilities and requests made by Byron Futbol Club.
  • Regularly inspect equipment and practice or game areas to ensure they meet safety standards and are appropriate for my players’ age and ability levels.
  • Follow a physician’s guidance when determining a player’s readiness to return after an injury.
  • Stay informed about the rules of the game, especially those relevant to my team’s age group.
  • Support and comply with all Byron Futbol Club rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Report any red cards to the appropriate Byron Futbol Club Director and adhere to all tournament, league, and club rules.
  • Report any player misconduct, including fighting or bullying, to the appropriate Byron Futbol Club Director.
  • Report physical altercations and patterns of parent or player misconduct to the appropriate Byron Futbol Club Director.
  • Wear appropriate apparel to all Byron Futbol Club activities (BFC or Byron apparel whenever possible).
  • Read and respond to communications—such as email and updates—in a timely manner.
  • Address minor behavioral concerns directly and constructively when appropriate.
  • Communicate with parents regarding player development or behavioral concerns when appropriate, or utilize the team manager for communication support when needed.
As a coach, I will never:
  • Show dissent toward a referee or challenge their decisions inappropriately.
  • Engage in unsportsmanlike behavior toward officials, coaches, managers, players, or parents.
  • Discuss team issues or concerns about individual players in front of other players unless absolutely necessary.
  • Use tobacco or alcohol at any Byron Futbol Club practice, game, or event.
  • Act in any way that harms the team or reflects poorly on Byron Futbol Club.
  • Leave a player unattended at the field or depart before every player has been safely picked up by a parent or guardian.

Authority and Accountability

  • Coaches, managers, directors, and referees have the authority to remove a player or spectator from the field area when behavior violates club expectations or disrupts the environment.
  • Players whose behavior disrupts the team or game environment may be required to leave the field area.
  • Repeated or serious misconduct may result in suspension or removal from participation in Byron Futbol Club.
  • Any decision to suspend a player will be reviewed and determined by the Board’s Executive Team.
  • Serious concerns, including coach misconduct, will be reviewed by the appropriate Director and, when necessary, escalated through the club’s grievance or appeal process.
  • Coaches are expected to comply with all SafeSport requirements and club policies.


Acknowledgment

Participation in Byron Futbol Club requires acknowledgment of this Code of Conduct.

  • Coaches will acknowledge this Code of Conduct prior to the start of each season.
  • Compliance will be tracked through the club’s registration system.
