FAQ
Eligibility
Who is eligible to play in Traveling League?
BFC forms traveling teams for ages U9 through U18 for the spring season, and U9 through U13 for the fall season as our players in 7th grade and higher will play on school teams.
The youngest age group BFC accepts into our Traveling League program is U9. Players of birth years younger than the current U9 age group according to the MYSA chart are welcome to join our Rec League program. Please note that the U9 minimum age is in alignment with other clubs in our region.
We will make every effort to roster all registered players on a Traveling team. However, if we do not have enough registered U9 players in a season to properly form a team, those players will be provided the opportunity to register with our Rec program. Please DO NOT double register your U9 player with both Traveling and Rec. If your player needs to move to Rec, we will accommodate regardless of registration deadlines.
How are teams formed?
BFC forms Traveling League teams based on player birth year. This is in alignment with Minnesota Youth Soccer Association. You can find a current birth year chart here: Birth Year and Season Matrix
Schedules
When does the season start and end?
Spring season - mid April (weather permitting) to late June
Fall season - late August to mid October
When and where are practices and games held?
Practice days and times will be finalized after registration is complete, as the schedule is based upon the number of teams we form.
All practices are held at locations in Byron. Games will be played in Byron and at locations across Southeast MN and in the Twin Cities region.
What happens when practices or games are postponed due to weather?
BFC board members will determine when practices or home games need to be canceled due to inclement weather. Cancelations will be made in accordance with our weather guidelines, which may be found on our Resources page. Communication of cancelations is sent via email and posted on social media.
Practices are typically not rescheduled.
When a game must be postponed due to weather, BFC traveling directors will work with SMSL to evaluate rescheduling options. Our ability to reschedule is dependent on a number of factors such as the availability of fields, teams, and referees. Rescheduled games will be added to team schedules and communicated to families as soon as possible.

Coaching
Do coaches and managers need a background check?
All adults who have contact with our players (including coaches, assistant coaches, team mangers, and board members) are all required to complete three pre-requisites.
- Background check
- Concussion training
- SafeSport training
We realize that this takes some of your time, but we are required by state and federal law to have our volunteers complete these requirements. We highly recommend that each team have at least one coach and one assistant that has completed all three requirements. At least one adult who has completed all three requirements must be present at every practice and game.
