FAQ
Eligibility
Who is eligible to play in Recreation League?
Rec teams include players from PreK through 5th grade. Players must be at least 4 years old prior to the first practice to play in Rec league as PreK.
How are Rec teams formed?
Rec teams are formed based on grade, gender, and the number of registrants. In Rec league kids are assigned to a team of their grade level, with no exceptions.
For the spring & fall Rec seasons, teams will be formed for these groups:
- PreK (coed)
- Kindergarten (coed)
- 1st - 2nd Grade Girls
- 1st - 2nd Grade Boys
- 3rd - 5th Grade Girls
- 3rd - 5th Grade Boys
Do you take special requests?
Special requests include team placement, preferred practice days or times, etc.
Unfortunately, we cannot consider special requests. While we are very pleased that our Rec program is growing, the increased size has made it impossible to juggle the number of special requests we receive each season. Rec League teams are formed by the BFC Rec League Directors, and we make every effort to keep the teams fair and balanced.

Do you reschedule games or practices?
Practices are not rescheduled.
When a game must be postponed due to weather, we will first try to reschedule the game on a normal practice night. If a practice night is not available, we try to reschedule on another day. Our ability to reschedule is dependent on field and team availability. For 3rd–5th grade games, please be advised that we may not have referees available at make-up games because it is difficult to find coverage.
Cost & Registration
What is the registration cost?
The cost of Rec League registration is $90 for all ages. A late fee of $25 is incurred for late registrations.

If we allow late registration, there are some conditions:
- ALL late registrations will result in an additional $25 LATE FEE.

Coaching
Who coaches rec teams?
All Recreation League coaches are parent volunteers - YES, YOU!
No previous soccer experience is required to coach, only a positive attitude and a willingness to teach our youngest athletes the basics of soccer and team play. We have training material available in our Coaches Corner and our experienced Rec coaches have passed down their knowledge from year to year.
If you are willing to coach, please register when you register your child.
Head Coaches are reimbursed their child’s full $90 registration fee and Assistant Coaches are reimbursed $50 of their child’s registration fee. Reimbursements will be issued via check at the end of their season commitment.
Head coaches must be at least 18 years old.
Do coaches and managers need a background check?
Our coaches and assistant coaches are all required to complete three pre-requisites.
- Background check
- Concussion training
- SafeSport training
We realize that this takes some of your time, but we are required by state and federal law to have our volunteers complete these requirements. At least one adult who has completed all three requirements must be present at every practice and game.
Do you share my contact information?
Your basic contact information (name, phone number, and email address) will be shared with your coach. The coach will only use these details to share information with the team or to contact you in case of an emergency.
